Activity - 1

Rearrange the following sentences in the correct order and put the numbers in the given boxes:

(1) Rip had to leave his group eventually. [2]
(2) On one of these days Rip had gone high up to the Kaatskill Mountains. [5]
(3) Rip used to sit and talk with his friends. [1]
(4) He heard a voice from the distance calling, “Rip Van Winkle! Rip Van Winkle!” [6]

Ans :- When Rip heard a voice from the distance calling, I think, he became astonished how the old strange man knew his name.

Ans :- The stranger looked peculiar. He was a short old man with thick bushy hair and a beard.

(b) What happened after Rip had drunk the liquid?

Ans :- After Rip drunk the liquid, his eyes closed and he fell into a deep sleep for long twenty years.

(c) Why was Rip surprised when he came near the village?

Ans :- When Rip came near the village, he was surprised because he met many people he had never seen before. There were rows of houses in his village and strange names were over the doors.

(d) What did Rip suddenly notice?

Ans :- Rip suddenly noticed that his beard had grown a foot long.

Ans :- Rip learnt about Nicholas Vedder that he was dead and had gone for these eighteen years.

(c) Who looked exactly like Rip’s previous self?

Ans :- Rip’s son, Rip looked exactly like Rip’s previous self.

(d) How long did twenty years seem to Rip?

Ans :- Long twenty years seemed to Rip as one night.

Write a short story in about sixty words using the hints given below. Add a title to it :

You went on a tour with your friends -- stayed the night in a house inside a forest -- slept in separate rooms -- when you woke up your friends were all gone -- your feelings -- how you returned home

A Tour To A Forest

Ans :- Once upon a time I went on a tour with my friends in a forest. When the sun went down, we decided to stay in a house in the forest for that night. We all friends slept in separate rooms. When I woke up in the morning, I saw all my friends were gone out. I was very shocked and got frightened. Finally, I came out of the forest immediately.
